Our Latest Ofsted Report

We are delighted to share with you the positive findings from our recent Ofsted inspection, which took place on the 11th and 12th of June 2024. We remain a good school. The report has highlighted several strengths of our school, and I am proud of the recognition we have received.

Here are some of the key positive aspects noted by the inspectors:

  • Welcoming and Inclusive Environment:The inspectors observed that “every pupil receives a warm welcome at this happy, friendly school.” They appreciated how pupils “get on well together,” with any disagreements quickly resolved. Our mission to “let trust, respect and love live here” is clearly reflected in the daily experiences of our pupils.
  • Positive Pupil Attitudes and Behaviour:Pupils at St Monica’s behave well and try their best in lessons. The report highlighted that pupils benefit from numerous extra activities and clubs, which cater to a wide range of interests, from choir to multi-sports.
  • High Aspirations and Achievements: The school has high aspirations for all pupils, aiming for them to enjoy their education and be well-prepared for their future steps. Most pupils achieve well across a broad range of subjects, a testament to the hard work of our dedicated staff.
  • Adaptive Learning: The inspector identified the effective processes in place to identify individual needs and praised class teachers for providing well-considered support and adapting learning activities so that most pupils with SEND achieve success.
  • Strong Leadership and Teamwork: The new leadership team was praised for steering the school through significant changes with integrity and a strong moral purpose. The staff’s dedication and teamwork, along with the support and challenge provided by the governors, were also commended.
  • Ambitious and Coherent Curriculum: Our curriculum is described as ambitious, broad, and coherently sequenced, starting from early years and building solid foundations for future learning. The inspectors noted that in many subjects, the school has successfully identified the most important knowledge that pupils need to learn and remember.
  • Holistic Development and Safeguarding:The school provides excellently for pupils’ holistic development, including a well-judged curriculum for personal, social, and health education. Pupils learn about healthy relationships, living healthily, and online safety. Diversity is cherished, and pupils are taught to value everyone, regardless of their beliefs, cultural heritage, or family background. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective, ensuring the safety and well-being of all pupils.

We are extremely proud of these accomplishments and are committed to addressing the areas identified for further improvement to continue providing the best possible education for our children. We will work on refining our curriculum, particularly for pupils with complex special educational needs, and ensure that all pupils achieve their full potential in all subjects. Under the current framework, our next inspection will be a ‘graded’ inspection. The report can be found below.
